General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

Reality supported by objective proof is my goal -- your goal is believing everything sounds different ...

... because you say so and your Mother could hear the difference in the next room while doing dishes.

If a boombox came with detachable speakers, the wires used would most likely be thinner than audiophiles would ever use.

Probably 20AWG or 24AWG.

Replacing those thin non-audio wires with any thick 12AWG wires would allow the internal boombox amplifiers to play significantly louder with the same level of harmonic distortion ... or at the same average SPL as before, but with significantly lower levels of harmonic harmonic and/or clipping distortion.

Yes we do have a published double blind test by Laurence Greenhill showing that some audiophiles could hear a difference between 30 feet of 24AWG zip cord compared with 30 feet of 12.5AWG Monster Cables when volumes are matched.

The lesson learned here is to never use thinner than 16AWG speaker wire, and to consider thicker wires such as generic 12AWG, at about 30 cents a foot.

There is no objective proof that any wires, at any price, will produce better bass quality than 30 cents per foot generic 12AWG, as I use at home. Most blind tests are done with 10 foot speaker wires, so I can not extrapolate the test results to 30 foot or 50 foot wire lengths.

'Everything sounds different, because I say so, and I couldn't be wrong' is Bozo the Clown science. No audiophile on Earth has ever been able to demonstrate such hearing abilities to witnesses, or even close, in a controlled listening test, in the past three decades.

You probably have never demonstrated your hearing abilities in any controlled listening test so you CAN claim:
"There's no proof I can't hear differences between every component and every wire" ... if that makes you feel superior to those of us who have tested our ears in controlled listening tests, and found that "everything sounds different" is nothing more than a silly self-serving claim made by audiophiles who like to feel superior to ordinary music lovers.
