SACD is a Sony Patent SCAM

Sony controls the patents on SACD. Having read their original papers, my conclusion was that they were trying to use patents to control the market, the same way they did with the Redbook CDs. They needed to do something, as their original patents were expiring.

There are alternate technologies and formats. So many alternatives, that format wars destroyed the market for most of them. The only solution is to let them all fight each other out. This becomes entirely practical once music is untethered from physical media and goes to 100% download. Then it is just a matter of downloading new software to be able to read new formats, instead of having to buy all new equipment.
