Re: If Bill Gates Owned Tympani IVa's

Wow, talk about your ultimate fantasy! (Well, at least my ultimate speaker fantasy, ULTIMATE fantasy involves several Penthouse models but I digress). Best bass I ever heard on Maggies was a pair of Bryston 7B's on the MG20's. They were playing Hotel California on the Eagles Hell Freezes Over. The Tom-Toms or whatever drum they were playing at the intro literally pressurized and reverberated throughout the room. That's the best bass I have actually heard on the Maggies. That said, my Krell KSA 150 provides bass on my MG 2.7's that no 150 watt amp has a right to. Also, my Krell is far less electronic sounding through the midrange and highs than the Bryston. Makes me believe that the BEST possible bass would be a pair of Krell MDA 500 mono-blocks. As far as midrange and highs go, the best I have ever heard was on some Wilson Watt-Puppies being powered by a BAT 60 tube amp. (That might actually be the second best I ever heard, I heard Supertramp (Lord is it mine?) over some quad electrostatics once that could almost bring tears to your eyes). But I would say (or guess) that a pair of the new BAT 150 SE monoblocks on the Tympanies mids and highs would probably give you a glimpse of heaven.

IF, you lucky dog you, you get to put something like this together, could I PLEASE get to come hear it? I'd probably travel across the country for a chance to hear a dream system like this.

I have a friend who used to have Tympany IVA's and bi-amped with Brystons. He put on a recording that had a jet or helicopter flying over. I didn't know he put the recording on. I actually thought a plane or helicopter flew right over the top of the house. That memory still sticks with me.
