Time to sell your audio jewelry

before it’s too late. We’re looking at, as a minimum, a recession although it will probably turn into a depression that will be long, deep and hurtful across the board (but God forbid not bloody). And I feel that the bottom will drop out all at once after some "trigger" event. Was estimating that the DOW could drop to 9000: that could become the ceiling, not the floor – 1000 point loss in a day – sure.

How does this relate to audio? There is a legion of equipment collectors (hoarders?) out there, not to mention the folks who “live” on Ebay. What happens when youse wake up to find NO activity on either that site or Audiogon. Unlike houses, audio equipment doesn’t have much intrinsic value; you can’t live in it, ride it or eat it. When the “dollars hit the fan”, this equipment's value will disintegrate. Those living off of Ebay better reserve a place in the local shelter.

My suggestion – look carefully at your system. Determine what is really necessary and what could be deemed excess. Put the rest, especially the expensive stuff on block NOW while it has some value.

Here’s a thought for a follow-up. What is your "desert island" system? I hope you own it right now. Get ready to set up the sand box and plastic palm tree right in your listening room.
