RE: Plain finish

Ted:

You are absolutely correct in saying that the VTAF Forum is not very active. I suspect the VTAF is not the kind of product that requires a forum. It is a simple device. The user installs it; the system is improved; and that is that.

The VTAF Forum has been so inactive that I began to neglect it. That, coupled with being out of town from April 30 through May 12, has made the outcome all the worse. Please accept my sincere apology for not getting back to you when you first asked your question.

The answer to your question is yes, I can provide the VTAF to you in plain brass, either lacquered, or unlacquered as you requested, at no extra charge.

I'll be happy to answer any other questions you may have.

More on the VTAF and the Counterweight for the Common Man:

The VTAF allows smooth and easy adjustment of VTA with the record playing, so that the user can hear the sonic changes as they occur.

The VTAF mounting system isolates the tone arm from the arm board, preventing arm board resonances from being excited, and returning down the tone arm to the stylus, where they appear as late arrivals, which would otherwise blur the sound to a perceptible degree.

The benefits of the VTAF mounting system are improved sound stage, imaging, inner detail, nuance, air, bass clarity, and musicality.

Also available is the VTAF Teflon Upgrade, which applies a layer of Teflon to the bottom of the VTAF Adjuster Wheel and the Top of the VTAF Bronze Bushing. The VTAF Teflon Upgrade reduces friction, allowing operation of the adjuster wheel to be even smoother and easier. More important, the VTAF Teflon Upgrade increases tone arm isolation from the arm board, adding to the isolation benefits noted above.

Also available from us is the Counterweight for the Common Man (CCM), a structural upgrade for Rega tonearms. We believe there is no better counterweight system for Rega arms. The CCM design is similar to that of the Origin Live structural upgrade. Included with the CCM are a beautifully machined solid brass counterweight, finished to match the VTAF, a hollow stainless steel mounting stub, a threaded insert for the mounting stub to connect to, a cap had machine screw to mount the stub to the tone arm, a conical washer to control mounting tension, a flat nosed set screw (grub screw) to secure the brass counterweight to the stainless steel mounting stub, and a hex key used to mount the stub and tighten the counterweight to the stub.

Prices are: $149.99 U.S. for the VTAF, $30 U.S. for the VTAF Teflon Upgrade, and $75 U.S. for the CCM.

The standard finish is Laquered Brass (protective laquer over engine turned solid brass). An optional Smokey Silver finish (protective laquer over nickel plate over engine turned solid brass) is available. The Smokey Silver option is priced at $30 U.S. for the VTAF and $15 U.S. for the CCM. I prefer the Laquered Brass finish for reasons of beauty and economy. Some users require a silvery finish. If the user would prefer the VTAF without the engine turning, I can provide it in a smooth finish, with or without lacquer.

Shipping and insurance are:

For the VTAF: $7.40 U.S. to U.S destinations, $12.75 U.S. to Canada, and $16.20 to other destinations worldwide;

For the CCM: $6 U.S. to U.S. destinations, 8 U.S. to Canada, and $10 U.S. to other destinations worldwide.

Shipping is included in the price of the VTAF Teflon Upgrade.

For orders which include both the VTAF and the CCM, we absorb the cost of shipping for the CCM.

If the VTAF Teflon Upgrade is ordered with the VTAF, we install the upgrade before shipping.

If the user wishes to try the VTAF, and later order the VTAF Teflon Upgrade, installation at home takes only 20 minutes.
