American Angels suck, b.cause after 1957, UK pressed Angels stopped coming over from their recordings source....from jolly England. UK vinyl seems to win out everytime. I have 500 or 600 English issues. I have ab.ut a dozen American pressed Angels left in my collection. I've replaced them with their UK counterparts over the years.
Garrod is spot on.....the recordings(master tapes)stay in the country of origin. UK Emi doesn't possess the French EMI Alfred Cortot master tapes. Those suckers stayed in Paris......as do all French artists recording for that lab.l.....if recorded in France....Yeves Nay, Margeritte Long, Samson Francois, etc etc.... (sorry for spelling)....that covers lab.ls like French Columb.a, Pathe, and Odeon as well.....all ostensively the property of the parent company of Emi. Many 1953-1957 red Angels were pressed in England....grab as many as you can!! They clearly state "Made in England" on their lab.l.
a SPECIAL NOTE: for many years during the early part of the century even American Columb.a was owned b. UK Columb.a. The infamous Walter Legge took over the UK counterpart after WWII and whether you hate the guy or love him, he really did record some b.autiful music. He's OK in my b.ok for having the wisdom to sign a 70 year old Otto Klemperer! The rest is History. I had to hunt down Klemperer's 1955 recordings of B.ethoven Symphonies nos 3. 5 and 7. I found a UK pressed Angel featuring his recording of the 5th....the other two I had to import from the UK. How do I know it's the 1955 recording? The lab.l states "Made in England"....which means that it's previous to 1958's stereo issues. All stereo Angels are pressed in America.
Hope that helps.
