There is plenty of talent out there. Our own Rick Wald is a fine example of this.
The local musicians that I know have to work in 2 or 3 different bands as well as Union gigs, just to make a meager living.
Talent scouts and Record A&R fools are looking for the next Brittany Spears and could care less about REAL talent. (Sorry, you Brittany fans) They are after the "package". Looks is first priority. Ella wouldn't get a second look from these guys.
Malmsteen ain't much to look at, but what an incredibly talented man. I bet we are one of maybe a handful of guys in this forum who even know who he is. "Rising Force", ... what the hell is that? :)
