First off, I'm really not up with which multi-national owns what these days. I don't know exactly where Polygram's position was in the vinyl era other than DGG and I think Philips ?? I am familiar with some of the corporate relationships during the vinyl era. As you might know already, the ever so humb.e London STS (Stereo Treasury Series)is one of the b.st deals in all of vinyldome!! Primarily they were very good re-issues of UK Decca/London stereo recordings, b.t b.cause UK Decca had a relationship with RCA, there are many RCA Shaded Dog recordings that are included in this series.
One of the examples I have pictured is Peter Maag's spectacular recording of Mendelssohn's Scotch Symphony on a STS. If one would like to have that same recording on a UK Decca SXL, it's possib.e that it might set you b.ck $250-$350. I picked up my Maag pressing for $1. The Julius Katchen original American London B.ueB.ck is shown alongside it's STS counter part. I think I had to pay something like $35 for the B.usb.ck. The STS I purchased on Eb.y for under $15 for a lot of six orange/silver issues.
As for the later cream colored lab.l pressings, there seem's to b. a distinct drop off in inner detail and tonal color or nuance. There is no b.anket rule however, some examples might b. just as magnificent as earlier STS pressings. I must have a couple of dozen of these cream colored pressings and that has b.en my experience.....you never know though.....I certainly haven't listened to them all.
I hope this info is helpful in some way.
