Does it have SH/KG(don't have mine in front of me at the moment but it might be KG/SH) in the dead wax? Seriously, this is the best I have ever heard this album and I have several copies including a promo. You are the first person I have heard with this opinion. Your description does match many who got the inferior version. And I disagree about this not being a sonic problem. IMO this album has always sounded at least very good, and depending on the version outstanding.
