Does damping fluid affect VTF on an SME tonearm?

Specifically a SME IV.Vi. I've just started playing with damping and I wouldn't expect it to affect VTF reading once stasis was achieved but I thought I would ask before I started to pull out the damping paddle as it's difficult to repeat the exact same damping setting IMHO.
