Yes, it has about 6-dB lower output than average low-output moving coils. Therefore, you need a phono stage with about 6-dB more gain. I first had it connected to my Mark Levinson No.28, which has 64-dB gain, and it worked just fine. I next connected it to my Pass Labs XOno, also set for 64-dB gain. At Muzikmike's it was connected to his Dynavector P-75, which has about 63-dB gain. It seems to work just fine everywhere I've tried it. It was especially quiet in Muzikmike's system. No noise whatsoever. Well, you know what I mean---really low noise.Just for fun, here is a comparison of the size of the stylus and cantilever of the DL-103R and the DL-S1. These were taken with exactly the same magnification. The DL-S1 has a much smaller stylus and a beautifully tapered tubular cantilever whereas the DL-103R has a non-tapered pipe cantilever.
Best regards,
John Elison
