That was very good. I passed it on to several musician friends who really felt that Karl Paulnack was spot on in his assessment of why music matters.
One quote on music that I read many years ago which has never left me was by Cervantes in Don Quixote. The pheasant girl Dorothea, who after a days toil to refresh her mind, would take up the harp, "for experience taught me that music composes disordered thoughts and eases the troubles which are born of the spirit." And this was written around 1600. I think most people understand how important music is, they're just too busy to sit down and listen. Think I'll go spin something.
