Got my SL1700 MK II and have a couple of issues

Spinning on this new set-up as I type and it sounds pretty damn nice for 200 bucks. But I've discovered one problem and one curiosity and would like to reach out for some help from my fellow inmates.

1. The VTA adjustment collar is stuck and there ain't no budging it. The lock/unlock switch seems ineffectual - I can't get the adjustment collar to turn whether the lock is in the locked or unlocked position. Anyone have any suggestions?

2. I noticed that when the arm lift is in the up position the table is muted. Is there a way to disable this rather curious feature?
