Having graduated from the world's finest technical institute (no name dropping please;-), I'm as aware as anyone how maddeningly counterinutitive Physics can often be! So I won't even try to reason with you, when you can easily convince yourself -- all you have to do is find some microphotographs of record grooves that clearly show the tilt of the groove undulations, and you'll be sold!
In fact, I think there are some links and/or photos published in that AudiogoN thread (about SRA adjustment). If you can't find any, let me know, maybe I can put my hands on some.
