Far be it from me to try and talk you out of it -- if it makes sense to you try it, it's only time and money; and having your own experience is far better than anything I or anyone else could tell you. Just don't kid yourself about the results!
So far (and based on MY experience) the reasons you imagine it would be worthwhile just don't add up, especially considering the negative aspects of long arms. Don't forget, an arm with an offset is tangent to the grooves at two points on the record, a straight arm at only one point; and then there is the increased resonance and bearing pressures, both which have far greater (negative) effect on sonics than the (marginal) positive effect of a TA with "pure" geometry. Certainly the anti-skate issue, which seemed to be your main concern originally, is insignificant. But you should find out for yourself, definitely!
