Has anybody read or is aware of problems associated with using motor oil as a bearing lube.Although i successfully used motor-oil as a lube for my old regas - (and others are swearing by mobil synthetic) the rega bearings are an all metal design.
BUT because my tt has a teflon bearing (bushing or sleeves) I am concerned with the detergents used in all motor oils - which may somehow slowely damage the bearing.
Currently i use a very thin machine oil/teflon spray mix. Although friction is very low (much less then motor oil) I am worried that it may be too thin and not supply enough protection.
Also - the bearing is very tight and even with the machine oil - it takes 3 hours for the bearing to properly seat itself. With motor oil (when i did use it) it took 24 hours to seat.
Any thoughts?
