Pretty much the same design on the pick-up wand except I closed the end with duct tape instead of a cap. The wand assembly is not attached to the table, it is hand held.
For the turntable I picked up a lazy-susan base at Home Despot for about $8. It is mounted on a rectangle of MDF, the platter is also MDF, cut into a circle with a coping saw. I put a short wooden dowel in the center to hold the record in place. There are 4 rubber feet on the bottom to keep it from slipping.
The device is totally manual. You spin the platter with one hand and hold the wand with the other.
Aside from my existing wet/dry vac, total project cost was less than $25. It works every bit a well as my Nitty Gritty. Better actually because the NG heated my records to warp temp after cleaning more than 3 back-to-back.
