I sold my Rega P25 TT, packed up my records and moved to a new house about 4 years ago and never unpacked my records or set-up a turntable until a few months ago. I was missing something musically with digital playback. I just put together a vinyl playback system over the past few months and Iâ€™m lovein life again. Iâ€™ve been spinning records just about nightly and itâ€™s the best drug going and my family has noticed my renewed enthusiasm in general.

Here's my vinyl playback set-up to date:

A refurbished Empire 298/Herbie mat.
Denon DL-103/Uwe wooden shell.
Cinemag SUT's.
fi Yph.
A Bugle for back-up now, can anything beat this for the money?

It started out when I bought a used Rega P25 like I had before but I still wasn't to happy with it. It just didn't have the jump factor or the PRAT thing going on. I didn't want to spend the money on a TD124 or 301/401 and I wanted something really simple so IMO the next best thing would be an Empire 298. A well functioning 298 is a wonderful piece and I have to say that I'm not longing for a more modern tonearm yet as the 98 arm and 103/Uwe are fine together. This PRAT thing is for real. Do you catch yourself toe-tapping with the music with your set-up? With my set-up it happens all the time and it's involuntary- freaky. This set-up just crushes the P25/103 and P25/10x4.
