The hole in the rubber surface of the arm lift is for adjusting the static height of the TA for cartridges of different heights. It has nothing to do with the silicon damped piston that's connected to the raise/lower lever. The silicon has dried out and the damper needs to be cleaned and refilled. I know there are instructions for removing this dashpot (as the British call it) and I have done it, but they're not in the owner's manual.
