And I'm not interpreting the thread as combative -- I hope no one else does as well.
I'd be really surprised if the current pressing plants are operating at anywhere near their capacity, so they'd likely be able to absorb small to reasonable increases in volume.
We, i.e., our market segment (vinyl buyers) and its providers (LP producers, pressing plants, etc.) will surely face some challenges if LP purchased volume does increase drastically. That could include some of the things that you mention in your post (e.g., crappy vinyl for a while). However, I think the long-run improvement in both vinyl and new playback equipment would be worth it.
Imagine if LP sales volume got to the point where new engineering students were considering materials engineering because they were fans of vinyl LPs, or students considered mechanical engineering because they thought LP playback equipment was cool. It could happen for a few of them if higher vinyl volume resulted in broader artist availability on vinyl and vinyl availability in more retail outlets, both of which would result in even more exposure and sales.
End long-run result = better! IMHO of course.
