In Reply to: Here are some spectrum measurements of harmonic distortion from my turntable... posted by John Elison on August 26, 2007 at 14:42:45:
This clarifies the issue....judging from these graphs, there's a very even response between odd and even harmonics. So, is mistracking the main source of distorsion, or is it the cartridges inability to reproduce the movements of the cutter stylus? Because of a short cantilever design, for example? I assume that the distorsion within the recorded 1 kHz signal on the record is much lower than that of the playback system.
Were the measurements made with a pivoted tonearm, or with a linear tracker?
Thanks again :-)
