SME IV.Vi (or V or IV) and WallyTractor problem

I bought a used SME IV.Vi and later bought a WallyTractor for it. The WallyTractor instructions say that the distance between center of the platter spindle and the tonearm pivot point must be within 0.5mm of the number given on the WallyTractor, in my case, 233.15 mm.

The problem is that distance is not achievable even with the tonearm fully slided out. With the alignment set with the SME paper gauge, the distance between spindle and tonearm pivot point is 219.08 mm.

Do I just ignore the capitalized prerequisite in Wally's instructions? Or what?

Turntable is an Avid Volvere with factory pre-drilled holes for SME mounting. The alignment with the SME paper gauge does not sound quite correct. Its not way off, but soundstage dimensionality could be better and there is occasional slight smearing. Besides, I'd really like to use the WallyTractor!

Tomorrow I'll check with HFNRR and Turntable Basics protractors, but I wanted to get some input from you guys. Thanks!.....Terry
