My theory regarding possible distorsions caused by dirty contacts is based on this: When a connection (a switch in an amplifier, for example) becomes dirty, it can start to shut off the music signal when it is weak, and then turn it on again when the music becomes louder (or if you turn up the volume). The switch starts to behave almost like a semiconductor. In a pure class-B amplifier, the output transistors shut off the output signal when the base voltage drops below 0.7-0.6 Volts, and this creates crossover distorsion. Could dirty connections cause the same thing? Or am I missing something?
Of course, I'll clean the connections anyway :)

- More likely a loose connection or bad solder joint would cause distortion/intermittent sound. nt - Rick W 17:34:31 07/31/07 (0)
