You may very well be right. Although I was always led to believe that the AC-1 and AC-2 shared the same stylus and Sappire cantilever as well as the low resonant body and platform. I had an AC-1 a very very long time ago (over 20 years ago) and it was an amazing cartridge. I had a very very different system back then, so any comparisons would be futile. I am still quite taken with the sound of both the AC-2 and AC-3. In my system the AC-2 is very slightly warm while the AC-3 I find more neutral and true to the recorded music. This may be simply because the AC-3 seems to have superior extension. Since I use Martin Logan CLSII's, I need all of the extreme HF extension I can muster.I wish I still had my old AC-1, but it is long gone.
I have not had enough time to fully realize each of their potential, but suffice it to say they both resoundly trounced my Benz Ruby 3H.
Me, I'm just a lawnmower, you can tell me by the way I walk....
