Re: "sound of British versus U.S."

"Building a Cinemag SUT looks easy and costs very little considering the flexibility i'd gain being able to use other cartridges, definitely a project for '07."

Very true and you'll have a lot of fun building it too, which is one of the things that makes this a hobby. And as one of the other posters recommended, you'll be able to buy the DL-103 with the SUT, both for about the price of the Goldring. It doesn't hurt to have at least a couple of cartridges on hand, and having the versatility of MM & MC will enhance your vinyl playback experience. I would also have a hesitancy in using a Goldring with the Thiels.

I hope the Cinemags work out - for you and me both!

"Does the sound of British versus U.S. audio products center around the lower frequencies - bass? seems like the British stuff is often labeled as detailed whereas US stuff gets described as lush & warm."

Umm, that's a good question!

I haven't formed any generalizations on that subject and probably don't have enough experience to confidently do so, although I've heard Brit stuff in both camps.
