Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ.

Here is something you might find interesting...

Take a look at the following graphs of tracking error and distortion for Stevenson, Baerwald and Löfgren alignments. The blue area on the left labeled "Average % RMS Distortion" represents the average cumulative distortion across the entire playing surface while the distortion numbers in the green area at the right represent distortion at three specific points on the LP.

Of course, Löfgren "B" has the lowest average cumulative distortion across the entire playing surface, but at the expense of exceptionally high distortion on inner grooves. Now, since you are so concerned about inner grooves, I decided to calculate the average cumulative distortion for the inner groove area between 60-mm to 70-mm groove radii. The interesting thing is that in this small inner groove area Löfgren has the highest average cumulative distortion at 40% greater than Stevenson, but Baerwald produces 25% less distortion than Stevenson.

Just some food for thought!

Best regards,
John Elison
