Motor replacement/upgrade

Last week, the motor on my Music Hall MMF-7 died. Before this untimely death, I had been considering adding a Pro-Ject Speed Box to the set-up. But now I am hesitant to buy the same motor that has failed.
As this is a belt drive table, I assume that I can run another motor outboard to spin the platter. Would it be a good idea to do so on this table? What motors would be recommended in the $300-500 range?
