Dead Motor

The motor on my MMF-7 died last night whilst playing a record. I didn't get to hear it. After taxiing home with a belly full of beer and a bag of Del Taco, I was snoozing (passed out?) on the couch after eating 6 regular tacos with 1.5 packets of Del Scorcho each.

When I awoke sometime around dawn I remember thinking, "Sh*t, I did it again," left the stylus spinning in the run-out groove all night. However, much to my surprise and chagrin nothing was spinning. The light on the motor was shining but the record was stationary with the arm about half an inch away from the end of Brahms' Hungarian Dances. (Why I chose Brahms at 1:30 in the AM I'll never know. It's usually Dinah Washington or one of my few cherished Blue Notes that I hear going "thwwwwwwwah-pphhhhhh, thwwwwwwwah-pphhhhhh," in the morning.) I switched the motor off and then on again. Still nothing, the motor was dead.

I contacted Underwood Wally, who sold me the table. .(God bless him, he answered my emails on Sunday!! Kudos Wally!) As it happens, the TT is about 3-4 months out of warranty. A new motor is about $140.

Before I plunk down the jack I would like to find out; is there any upgrade path for the motor on the MMF-7?

thanks, Art
