Ah, a peaceful, lazy Sunday morning. Nothing like breaking the silence with the sound of a whirling shop-vac to clean some recent eBay acquisitions. Two gems (Dinah W on Emarcy), one unplayable scrap of vinyl (Sidney B, BNP 7009, bummer), and a few others. One of these discs (El Gran Combo "Latin Power" on Gema)has the most off center label that I have encountered. It is so far out that it covers up a portion of the run-out grove on Cara-B.
Here's the question: Should I try to peel back the label and clean off the residue to expose the groove? Or would this be an exercise in futility? If I leave it as is, what are the chances of gunking up the stylus? The best thing I assume would be to lift the arm before the stylus gets to the label but I don't have a good track record of arm-lifting at the end of a record.
Thanks, Art
