I pick Door Number 1 ...............

You may want to get a platform for the SOTA (e.g., Neuance, Bright Star). The tiptoes and granite could be causing the hard sound you're getting. I don't know about the "bloat".

I know the SOTA Star (a Sapphire with vacuum) very well but not your other equipment. I had my Star on a cheap Sanus rack with glass shelves for many years. A dealer gave me a tip to put anything - felt, a thin sheet of sorbothane, even cardboard under the feet of the SOTA to get it off the glass. It helped. Later I bought a Bright Star IsoRock 4 Reference and it helped considerably, better overall clarity especially in the highs.

You may also want to disconnect your CD player to check whether you are getting some digital nasties crossing over into your analog. Just unplug it at the mains power and listen to vinyl only for a couple days as a check.
