I was in the same position as you recently and auditioned the Pro-ject Xpression, its a great table for the money, but the stock cartidge is not very good, sell it on ebay and whatever money you get fior it can be put towards a better cartidge. Ive read that the Xpressions carbon fibre tone arm is very good and deserves a good cartidge. A good start would me the Shure m97xe($65 from Amazon.com) or the Audio technica 120e($60 garage-a-records). If you like to tinkier and are somewhat handy you could go for a used vintage table like a Thorens td160. Good luck
