Home Vinyl Asylum

Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ.

If I had it to do again...

I'd buy one of the $150 units that does not include the vacuum. I'd then go to Home Depot and buy a kick-a$$ shop-vac with the money I saved. The shop-vac will also see duty in the garage/workshop. Multi-tasking is good.

I bought the base level Nitty Gritty. It works well and I don't mind spinning the discs manually. It does, however, get very hot after a few LPs. So hot that it begins warping records. (They straighten out when they cool) For this reason an out-board vacuum is a plus; no heat. I believe the VPI 16.5 has heat issues too.

P.S. Don't kid yourself about only buying new records. Stop into a thrift store one time and score a couple killer records for a buck and you'll be hooked and glad you've got the RCM.
