Re: something additional

I'm a bit picky, but I do agree that we've come a long way since Beatles at Candlestick Park. The Stones live sound a few weeks ago was relatively good, but huge stadium events will always suck to my ears due to the inherent limitations of sound reinforcement at that scale.

I'll take a small club gig over a 2000 seater any day. Not to brag (well not too much, anyway), but in the past few years I've had free access to any show at some of the best venues in San Francisco, and I've passed on quite a few because the idea of seeing a particular act perform in a venue that won't do them audible justice is intolerable (and potentially boring) to me.

Live sound for the most part sounds to me like a bad stereo turned up REALLY LOUD. How can it not: Most venues don't use the same quality mics that one would use in a recording studio (not practical), and the amplification and loudspeakers employed are of poorer fidelity then your typical mid-fi home system. I mean, they're not using Krell/Mark Levinson/Wilson, etc (I have had fantasy's about it)

From what I understand, the mics at our local Davies hall (SF Symphony) are for recording, not sound reinforcement. Bummer other symphonies are amplifying their sound.. it may get to the point that our home systems will sound better then the live performance.. Oh wait, that's already happened.
