Re: Am i in the right place?

I didn't intend to put down any particular equipment in my post, I was more interested in addressing why anyone would spend $1600 on a TT.

But here's the thing: I've heard many Technics turntables over the years, but was never blown away by the sound of a turntable until the first time I heard a system with a good high-end belt drive.

I've since learned (from this forum, mainly) that what I was attributing to a belt drive table probably had more to do with the very good (and expensive) cartridge and phono preamp then then the TT itself.

Regardless, the fact remains that the majority of people under 50 who own a Technics or other DD use them for dj style playback, with a dj cartridge and running through a crappy preamp mixer and PA system. This doesn't do the reputation of vinyl any favors.. most of the young people in my town feel that the benefits of vinyl is about the ability to physically (dj) manipulate the medium and the potential of aquiring /playing out of print, rare groove, old school breaks what have you..
