Jim,
What I did'nt mention was that the noise is NOT there when the T/T is spinning(no music playing)
However,you are spot on with your theory,I think.
I asked a Michell dealer,he said,not exact words,that its the inertia of thr t/t slowing down and sending a current? to the motor.Which the system is picking up.
Or words to that effect,
