I thought that the reason a square wave could be recorded on vinyl, was because of the limited bandwidth taking away the sharp edges of the square wave, and making the rise and fall time more gradual, rather than instant. But you mentioned that the groove is not a square wave, but a triangle wave? This is something I don't understand, I always assumed that the groove walls are copies of the actual soundwaves. It's kind of hard to put it into words, I hope I don't sound too confusing...

I've been searching for information on disk-cutting on the web, but I haven't found anything that explains it in great detail. There must be some books on the subject, right? I can imagine that the instruction manuals for the cutting heads/lathes would likely be a great source of information as well.
