Ya know, when I got my new, and first, real turntable last week, Nightfly was the first analog vs digital comparison I made. Nightfly has long been one of those recordings that I have held high on a pedestal. I couldn't wait to hear the analog version on a quality TT.I gotta say it was a big disappointment. I could barely tell a difference between the analog and digital.
Where was the "warmer" analog sound? The more detailed vocals? The deeper soundstage? Surely there would be an obvious difference in timbre?
Then I looked closely at the liner notes, "Recorded entirely on 3M digital 32 track and 4 track machines..."
What a buzz-kill, no analog in sight.
