This is most likely dumb, but how much additional force do you need when you realize your stylus is wearing out. Cart is Dynavector 20XH, Max stylus force is 2.2 g, and cart was tested at 2g showing a nice straight graph line( found it in the cart box). My TT was setup at 1.78g and is about 3 years old. It gets about 50% use, or about 5 hours a week average use.
For about a week, female singers high freqs have sounded bright. I had changed some wires, and tubes, and thought they were breaking in. That was until I listened to my CD player which sounded great. Last night, I got out my trusty digital stylus meter. Stylus force was the same 1.78g as it was originally set up. I decided to reset the stylus force at 1.90g. I played some tunes, and all was well. Did I increase the stylus force too much or too little? Is there a rule of thumb I need to know about stylus wear and increasing the force? Should I have just taped a penny on top of the cart/arm connector like my parents?
