Hip Hop saved the vinyl industry?

OK, now that I grabbed your attention with the subject line, I want to ask everyone an honest opinion. Considering the demographics of this forum (my best guess, actually), I think the answers should be interesting.

DID Hip-Hop music save the vinyl industry? Did legions of hip-hop DJ's, promoting the sampling of ancient LP's, toting around LP crates, and demanding ever-higher standards for their turntables have anything to do with the reemergence of vinyl? (PLEASE no comments on sampling/legality/and is-or-isnt music!)

Personally, I do believe they did HELP to save it. I believe that just as LP's were being phased out of the marketplace, kids listening to hip-hop saw their superstars talk about hunting for that perfect LP. Hell, one of the biggest NYC DJ's started a record company named DIGGIN' IN THE CRATES! An entire segment of the music industry relied on VINYL as its lead and backing instrument! That isnt the case anymore, but from '79-'92ish it sure was.

All the best record shops used to be in the city by me, and it wasnt because all of those urban youths were hunting for the perfect Beethoven Symphony to play on their decrepit Sony compact record/double cassette/radio systems! They wanted that James Brown drum-track to throw onto their brand new Technics!

C'mon...whudya think?
