IMHO, this *heat* issue is....

a bunch of crap! Yeah, I know, lots of friction generated by a very small diamond with the equivalent force of about 35 pounds per square inch, blah, blah, blah.

The passing of the stylus over any single point in a groove on a vinyl record is too brief to generate enough heat to do any real damage, at 33.3 or 45 rpm.

If it did, how is it that records can be played over and over again for years and still sound just as good as the first play, if properly cared for?

Now, a badly worn stylus...that may be a different story.
