Thanks Mike...! I've saved the text to a word doc for future reference.Being new to the world of jazz I find lists of favorites like this useful. Another useful reference that was suggested to me and that I'd like to pass along is a reference book that offers some history and a list of recordings of the various jazz artists that have blipped the radar screen.
"The Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD, LP & Cassette" ISBN 0 1401.5364 0
Newer editions of this book only list cd recordings and can be found at all the major book vendors by doing a title search.I also make use of the online data base at All Music. http://www.allmusic.com/
In there I've found useful history on individual albums by different artists of nearly all genre's of music. For instance I found some session info on some Miles Davis recordings that was not offered on the record jacket. Info including who had left the group but returned for just that recording and on which track. Good reading here.
thanks again,
-Steve
