packing properly knowing the actions of most shippers. I learned that back in 1965 when I worked for Aloha Airlines in Hawaii. After unloading island mail from an aircraft, I took the load to the national terminal postal office. One of the packages was obviously a painting wrapped in brown paper and multiple strands of string. I have no idea if there was any packing material inside the brown paper, but there was definitely no box
The postal employee grabbed the large package and threw it about 10 feet. It hit on one edge then hit on the opposite edge. I believe it the original edge one more time, but the memory has faded. Anyway, that incident immediately taught me what was needed to safely pack anything in the future. That incident was the source of my phrase: Fragile-throw with care.
