Small cartridge pins on Ortofon OM10.

Two days ago, I helped a friend mount a Ortofon OM10 cartridge on a Technics SL-1300 headshell using a set of new headshell wires.

I first installed the new wires on the headshell and used tape to keep the wires away while installing the Ortofon cartridge.

Next, I started connecting the wires to the cartridge. However, the wires were too loose on the cartridge and easily came off. A closer look revealed that the Ortofon pins were much smaller than the headshell pins. Checking the asylum archives, I did read a 2004 post that indicated the smaller pins on the Ortofon cartridge. I am not sure if custom wire sets for Ortofon are available from a third party when not using Ortofon headshells.

Anyway, my friend with better eyesight carefully crimped the new wires, and we were able to get a tight connection on the Ortofon cartridge.

I am sure other folks must have experienced the same problem, but this was my first time with it.

After the clips are tightened, if installing another cartridge - Montmorency 13:12:25 06/2/22 (3)
