Home Vinyl Asylum

Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ.

After an all day affair, I am back spinning LPs on my AR-XA.

I was able to clean the rotten foam off the replacement inner platter with aircraft metal paint remover after a initial scraping with a plastic putty knife. Discoloration still exists, but the platter is smooth. I don't care about the discoloration and was more concerned with keeping the same mass and balance.

I then polished the bearing rod and tip.

The hardest part was flipping the delrin disc and reinstalling it. Every time I dropped the disc pad into the spindle bearing shaft, it landed on the wrong side. Removing it each time became real difficult, and it finally would not come back out . After a long struggle, I was able to remove it. I finally came up with a installation method that worked. I lowered the delrin disc while it was attached to a wood dowel and coated with a small amount of blu tak. When the disc bottomed out, I pushed down on the disc with a wooden skewer while lifting the blu tak dowel.

After some turbine oil was applied, I lowered the inner platter into the bearing well. I am now enjoying music once again. Thanks to the guy who brought the two motor AR-XA to the dump and to those that helped here at the asylum.
