From your original post, I thought the table was just a picture you saw on the internet or a table you saw at an used audio store. Sorry I didn't realize you knew the owner of the actual table.
I just looked at the service manual for the KD500/550, and I would not be able to fix a complicated motor or control circuit like that either. Sometimes speed issues can be remedied with cleaning the variable resistors for the pitch control, but not turning at all is beyond me.
It would be interesting to see if there is power getting to the motor, as there is a lot of circuitry ahead of the motor. I saw no used motors on eBay, if that really is the problem.
