You have made no mention of VTA... I would suspect that something may be off if tracking at or near the recommended VTF sounds muddy. Check the VTA and then start with 1.5 VTF at the manufacturer recommends. Remember no one has spent more time, money, or efforts to determine the recommended VTF. If it still sounds muddy after verification of VTA then back off VTF .1 at a time and re-listen.
