One big difference between Mobil 1 and non-detergent oils like Zoom Spout or sewing machine oil

is that Mobil 1 and other automobile oils with detergents will suspend contaminants that can be removed by filters. Turntables have no filters, so contaminants are best settled out and removed periodically by cleaning the platter bearings. Suspended contaminants in a turntable bearing will increase wear and shorten bearing life. The owners manuals of some tables clearly recommend non-detergent oil. The AR-XA manual is one of those.

Regards your statements about Mobil 1 versus Mobil DTE Oil Light, they are both excellent lubricating oils. The word "circulating" has nothing to do with the great lubricating qualities of Mobil DTE Oil Light. See the link below for the high lubricating characteristics of Mobile DTE Oil Light.

One big advantage of Mobil 1 is that synthetic oils are long chain molecules that provide excellent film strength. That means the oil resists draining back down the spindle bearing and bearing shaft and provides lubrication along the entire bearing height. One synthetic oil that is also non-detergent is Amsoil 20W compressor oil. That's what I currently use for my Technics and Dual turntables. My AR-XA motor is so weak that I use Zoom Spout on that one.
