Seems to be lots of "affordable" options out there, as well as some ASTRONOMICAL ones, just like anything else in this endeavor.
I had great intentions when I bought my TT and cart years ago, but 2 babies came along and everything went into the closet. I have a box or two of vinyl, some new issues lots of used. I discovered that symphonies and opera listening on vinyl is a challenge, lots of flipping sides in a 3 hour opera, so I'd use it mostly for chamber pieces and concerti. I also discovered at some point that the supply of good used vinyl evaporated here pretty quickly and I wasn't avid enough to hunt it down.
I'll keep poking around and see what might work for me. I had thought about trading my TT in, it's the only piece I have that's really worth anything, but I don't think I'd be able to put together another TT/arm/cart for much less than what I'd get in trade for it, so it stays.
