I think that the information from Henley Audio that you have already posted gives some good reasons. incidentally, why Henley Audio? May I guess that you have (or are intending to have) an Ortofon MC cartridge? If so, good choice.
Just in regard to something that I infer from your response to Story's post and which I think may need clarification. A step up transformer does not undertake the duties of an RIAA stage. You need both so you cannot buy a transformer then plug it directly into a line input on a preamp which you say is all that your Vincent has. You either need to change preamps to one with an inbuilt MM phonostage then add an outboard transformer or you keep your Vincent and buy a full outboard phonostage with MC gain via a transformer (rather than by high gain amplification). There are various alternative permutations which result in much the same. The phonostage then plugs into one of your preamp's line inputs.
