I do appreciate your knowledge and your effort to try to educate me, thank you for your patience.
I'll take a look at how I might prepare a pink noise spectral plot of the cart+preamp+KORG ADC output.
And I have not validated the response of the phono pre-amp with an inverse RIAA module and a white noise test tone. Again I would have to think about how I might achieve that. It may exceed both my hardware, software, and "ambition" resources.
The IFI ZEN phono preamp has a published RIAA EQ tolerance level of (+/- 0.15dB). But of course who knows how flat the responses of the preamp sections are. On the other hand, if I experiment with EQ to achieve a more balanced sound, I end up with really large -10db cuts between 60 and 250hz, so hard to believe a manufacturer would voice a device with that level of deviation from flat.
Given there are so many variables I will try the easiest corrective first: experimenting with the VTA.
If I don't have acceptable results after that, I will need to decide on further efforts.
